Idyllic Sailing

Michael and JoAnne Gray

Guemes Island Washington

Idyllic conditions! You and SuAn are looking great! New Zealand is getting bad weather today with Cyclonic activity they have not had for approximately 25 year (or so we are told by our friends there). We got an offer on "Destiny" and have counter offered with something that we will accept...otherwise she remains our boat! :-) P.S. We also have trouble with the validation codes, never works the first time.

Habt Ihr ein Glück, dass Ihr die grüne Linie sehen konntet, das ist nämlich nur sehr selten möglich und bei besonders günstigen Licht- und seegangsverhältnissen. Uns blieb dies selte Glück damals leider verwehrt! Grüße von den Momos

ITCZ

Cayuse

Punta de Mita

Hi SuAn, hey you guys are looking GOOD. Just FYI I have made many attempts to write but when I use the validation code it kicks me off. Let’s hope this works this time! Fair winds Lutz and Gabi. We are enjoying your posts!

ITCZ and the equator

Michael and JoAnne Gray

Guemes Island Washington

We hope your experience continues to be benign! Ours was OK as well as we were literally able to see squalls forming during the day and in most cases dodge them have proof on video...:-) the few we couldn't avoid were at night (in spite of seeing them on radar) and amounted for a bunch of excitement with gusty multi-directional winds at 30 knots plus that were over in a short time and didn't raise waves at all....we didn't bother reefing, just rolled in the jib after taking the spinnaker down in advance of them coming and not flying it at night. Not dangerous, just an inconvenience..hope your experience until is even more benign as you pass through to below the equator. Love the updates!!

The "Milk Run"

Michael and JoAnne Gray

Guemes Island Washington

Ahhh....now you know why it's called the "Milk Run", or at least your time now :-) The passage from Mexico to the Marquesas was our most wonderful ever, our first sight of land was Hakahau which appeared in the early morning mist our reaction was emotional, but also feeling a little chagrin that the passage was at an end. As you said, we felt we could have sailed forever. Hugs, MnJ

thinking of you

Michael and JoAnne Gray

Guemes Island Washington

Hopefully with jib alone you were able to keep the boat speed below the critical point (7 knots?) that SuAn gets unruly! We had a similar starting few days (20 gusting to 25, but thankfully not 30) as well. We tore the clew out of our reduced 1.5 oz spinnaker about an hour before we had decided it was too much to keep it up into the night. Made for a much nicer evening.... also, the last time we used a spinnaker on that passage. Looking forward to your next update!

Following you!

Michael and JoAnne Gray

Indian Village Guemes Island Washington

Thanks so much for the position posts and updates dear friends! Was snorkeling good at the Socoros? Hope the wind picks up and you get a large gentle swell from the stern quarter to push you comfortable toward the Marquesas. Looking forward to hearing about bright starlit nights and phosphorescent trails of SuAn's twin keels and rudder....
