Petite Terre (Ile Pamandzi) is rather small and each point of the island can be reached in more or less than one hour on foot. The island is heavily populated, has an airport and surprisingly the left overs of an old volcano. That area is called Diani Dzaha.
Inside the lake there are still two spots, where bubbles come up from the depth of the earth and the geological activities are measured by sensors. A hiking trail take us around the crater lake, sometimes on top of the crater, other times in the valley and along the lake shore. Since the land is fertile, there are plantations of banana trees, lots of mango trees, jackfruit and we have seen a few pineapple plants as well. From the top the views over the Indian Ocean / Channel of Mosambique to the East and Mayotte´s main island Grande Terre in the West are spectacular.
