Lautoka is the second important city in Fiji on the main island Vitu Levu. A sugar mill close to the port sends dirty smoke into the air. Processing the sugar cane and taking it with trucks to the sugar mill along the dusty roads make us wishing to have an oxygen mask. After passing the sugar fabric towards down town the air is breathable again. The business is flourishing along the roads in the plenty of Indian shops and restaurants. We buy some more of the delicious Fiji Bitter beer and of course fresh fruits and vegetable from the big market.

At a petrol station we fill our jerry tanks with kerosene and dinghy fuel. Our sawing machine needs to be repaired, but the mechanic finds one problem after another and we don´t have enough time to get them solved as we have to check out with the authorities from Fiji this afternoon. After clearing out we are not allowed to stay so we prepare SuAn for her next long sail to Vanuatu: washing dust from deck, loading the dinghy on deck, washing all fruits and vegetables and store our provisions.

Again we are not to have curry in one of the plenty Indian restaurants so Gabi cooks a delicious shrimp curry on board of SuAn.
