New Ross is a historic small town in the southeast of Ireland, beautifully situated on the River Barrow. Founded in the 13th century, it quickly developed into an important port and trading center. The 19 th century saw New Ross merchants establish strong links with ports on the North American east coast. Savannah, Boston and Quebec, as well as Newfoundland. The town is especially known for its connection to emigration history, vividly brought to life at the Dunbrody Famine Ship, a full-scale replica of a famine-era emigrant vessel.

New Ross is also notable as the ancestral home of John F. Kennedy, which visitors can explore at the Kennedy Homestead. The town offers a charming mix of history, culture, and everyday Irish life, with small shops, pubs, and cafés. The town is home for about 8500 people.

Just downstream along the river, on the outskirts of the town, lies the New Ross Boatyard, where SuAn has safely been stored on land during her first northern European winter.
