The city center with its many hotels, restaurants and pubs is located just at the shore of Trinity Inlet. Tour providers, exclusive shops, souvenir shops, massage and tattoo studios, a casino, museums and a big shopping mall invite to spend money. Lots of tropical plants together with sculptures and mosaic works in the parks provide shelter from the strong southern sun.
A special attraction is Cairns Lagoon, a public pool, just above Trinity Inlet, well off the tidal mud with its crocodiles and deadly jelly fish species. People spend time to refresh in the shallow water or get some tan on the grassy area around and do BBQ at the provided BBQ places in the park around.
The main attraction here is the Great Barrier Reef. A big ferry terminal with mainly fast catamaran ferries, docked in the marina, sells day trips to the islands of the reef. Snorkeling and scuba diving trips are a Must Do.
