However, this time a lot of old paint needs to be removed, as it’s peeling off in large areas at various spots. Obviously, when the last antifouling was applied in South Africa, the job was done poorly. That was the only time, that this work was done by a company, and now we’re dealing with the consequences.
Lutz is using a scraper to remove large sections of loose paint from the hull and is now crawling out from under the boat. The safety goggles, mask, and suit only somewhat protect against the dust. It´s a painstaking job, and after that, everything will need to be sanded again. This will take a few days.
