The Kiwi is a bird, only living in New Zealand. It is active at night and very difficult to spot.
The museum of Whangarei has a Kiwi couple in its Kiwihouse. In order to give their visitors a chance to see a Kiwi, it is night inside the building and feeding time right now . So after some time a Kiwi is coming out and searching for food. They are very shy and a click of a camera makes them hiding again.
Kiwis have lost their ability to fly and only rudimentary wings are left.
Their eggs are eaten by mammals, especially opossums and cats. Only about 30,000 of those cute animals are left.
