Doubtful Sound is connected with Bradshaw Sound and Thompson Sound. But also here are not many safe anchorages for all wind conditions. The water is up to more than 400 m deep and often even 10 m from shore the bottom drops to more than 30 m depth.

Since it is perfect summer weather and it is still quite calm we choose the very last anchorage spot in Bradshaw Sound, at the end of Gear Arm. Already when we are approaching the anchorage we are absolutely fascinated by the breathtaking beauty of the landscape. We anchor at the Gear Arm, in front of a steep rising 1300 m tall mountain. This is the most beautiful anchorage we have visited so far in New Zealand.
