We have booked a guided tour to the volcano „La Soufriere“ on the island St. Vincent.

At 6a.m. we take the first ferry to Kingstown, a 1 hour ride only. There is a lot of time before the tour starts and we stroll through the streets of Kingstown, the capital of St. Vincent.

Approximately 30 islands are belonging to St. Vincent and the Grenadines and it has a population of 108.000 people, most of them are Africans.1979 independence was achieved. The people are living from agriculture and tourism.

A minibus takes us together with 10 Scandinavians along the east coast of St. Vincent up to the foot of the volcano. The climb up to the 4048 ft high volcano takes about 2.5 hours through rainforest, which later changes in to lower plants vegetation. Almost reaching the top, the clouds are getting closer and denser. We are still lucky and can see inside the huge volcano where another little volcano has formed through the last eruptions. It is amazing to understand that the rocks and plants we have passed are younger then 30 years, as the last eruption took place in 1979. We have to take care that the strong wind doesn’t blow us into the crater. We enjoy the walk and the nature and the fantastic view.

Just in time before the last ferry is leaving Kingstown to Bequia we are at the port and had a great day.
