In the ship yard

SuAn is waiting for us in Port Whangarei  on the hard. This shipyard is far out of town at the Hatea River, which goas another 20 miles to the open ocean at the east coast of New Zealand. This river has tidal differences up to 2.5 meters and at low tide sailing yachts do not have enough water under the keel to sail up in to the Town Basin Marina.

Our shipyard is quite some distance out of town, and our car is well needed to buy material, tools, food and as well to provide us a bed for the night.

This long distance to town is one of the reasons, why the yard is not very busy. The cruising season in New Zealand isn´t over yet. But living on board is much more convenient at the dock of a marina.
